What can kill big fish? - Sam

There are 3 types of things that can kill a big fish:
  • Environment
  • Disease
  • Physical Harm


The pond that a Koi lives in can be harmful if:
  • There is poor filtration and Ammonia or Nitrite builds up in the water.
  • The water temperature fluctuates more than 20 degrees in a very short period of time.
  • The pH fluctuates rapidly, or even crashes.
  • The oxygen level drops, due to poor aereation.
  • There are chemicals that are harmful to fish in the source water, ie: chlorine.


There are four types of afflictions that Koi can get:
  • Parasite Infestation
  • Bacterial Infection
  • Viruses
  • Fungus

Physical Harm

Things that can cause physical harm include:
  • Humans (rough handling)
  • Predators
  • Nets
  • Sharp rocks in the pond
